Do you need the shingles vaccination?
There is a vaccine which greatly reduces the risk of getting shingles. If you are over 50 and have not received it before, you are eligible unless you have certain conditions or take medications which affect the immune system.
If you are over 70 you are eligible for a free vaccine on the NHS from your GP. Getting vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself from shingles. This is particularly important for older people as those over 60 are more at risk of the serious or long-lasting side effects.

"Shingles and the more serious side effects are more common among older people. The vaccination helps to reduce your risk of catching and having complications from shingles and is available on the NHS to over-70s."
